I guess the biggest reason I have no issues with how they are doing it here, is because I see how they do it on Hero Zero. You get decorations only in about 1 in 20 boxes and the rest give you 10-40 cogs, you have to save, to buy decorations, starting at 200 cogs each and ranging to 800 cogs. Trust me, what they are offering us is more than fair and there is no need to change it.

If you don't play hero zero, it's hard to explain. Each box contains either cogs (which are kind of like scents on BBE) or decorations. Decorations cost between 200 and 800 cogs. Trust me, the way they have it set up here is better for everyone.

That seems both good and bad to me, Mountbara, compared to BBE.

The really really horrible:  You really open a deco box on Hero Zero and only actually get a decoration 5% of the time?

The potentially good thing: Do you have control over which decorations you get when you turn in cogs? Or do you get something random? On BBE, decorations are entirely random... but if you can save up and get EXACTLY what you want, I might very well prefer that scheme.

Yes you can get exactly what you want but, has anyone actually gotten duplicates on BBE? I am thinking not, which makes BBE's method more attractive. But again, either way is fine for me, I don't think they are going to change it, considering the mechanics in their other game.

I have not gotten a duplicate, but statistically that is not unlikely. I remember hearing someone claiming they got a duplicate. It is easy enough to get confused given all the options available, so it might not be true.

MountBara, I like and respect you, so please keep this in the back of your mind as you read my response, otherwise you'll misunderstand the nature of my ire.

I grew up on auto racing. I didn't then, and do not today, like any kind of stick and ball sport. I have yet to watch one baseball, basketball, football, soccer, hockey etc game in it's entirety. The average american football or basketball fan watches more of their sport in a month than I have consumed in my life.

Auto racing was different in many ways, but one unique aspect was that a driver (or constructor's) championship was determined by the total number of points a driver accumulated in a year. Yes, I know the history of Formula one and the subtle variation of this they used to do, but let's not digress. In NASCAR for example, the driver that won the championship was the person who got the most points ALL year.

NASCAR wanted to compete on Sunday with football, and they felt that to do that (and improve their ratings) they needed a play-off system similar to stick and ball sports to gin up excitement at the end of a season. They then further added into their new system - unlike the previous one which had worked well for them for over 30 years -  elimination rounds, and all manner of crap, until you get what we have now. Whatever driver - among the 4 finalists after eliminations - who finishes highest in the final race of the year, wins the year long championship. That driver could have won 34 races prior to that point in the season, and not win the championship.

"Oh, but that's how it is in other sports. A baseball team could win every game in which they compete, get to the world series, and then lose a few games, and they aren't champions".

Yeah. I know. I understand. But see.. I don't watch baseball. Or football. Or soccer. Or basketball. Or hockey.

So I don't give a **** how they do it in those sports. If I wanted to watch those sports, I would have watched those sports! Ratings and attendance have long since plummeted, because in their attempt to make auto racing be just like "every other sport" they ruined many of the things that made it different in the first place. To which many fans - who did also watch those other sports as well - decided, well screw it, I may as well just watch those other thing instead.

It's like this joke Bob Goldthwait used to tell back in the 1980's, about how he's invited to dinner at a friend's house and they want him to try something for the first time, and they keep saying "It takes just like chicken, it tastes just like chicken, it tastes just like chicken!". To which he retorts "Oh yeah, well if it tastes just like chicken, why don't you give me some ****ing chicken?". LOL

Analogies and comparisons to how or why they do XYZ in another game do not resonate with me, cause I don't play those games. I can understand the how and why it's shaping your view, I can respect that, I get it. I really do. It would probably be impossible for it not to affect your position, or apathy to this new mechanic in this game in terms of how they are doing it.

However, as I am not a player or customer of that product, I just can't bring myself to care how they do it in Hero Zero. I only care how they are doing it here, and as they are adding this feature into a game over *three* years into it's run, it's a bit long in the tooth to be adding this now AND then artificially slow progression on it way down by throwing in a bunch of patterns I collected 2+ years ago.

Had this existed from the start, or perhaps twelve months into the game's cycle, and we had all had the past 2-3 years to progress on this, I would certainly be a lot more indifferent to this implementation as well.

Liz

P.S. I do have 130,000 liquid developer that I'll never use, too bad I can't convert that to scents. LOLOLOL

I'm not saying it isn't fair I'm just saying it isn't what I prefer. I am actually quite pleased with this game's ability in not making you pay if you don't want to and still providing a fun experience.

"MountBara, I like and respect you, so please keep this in the back of your mind as you read my response, otherwise you'll misunderstand the nature of my ire."  Thank you, coming from arguably the best player in the game, that means a lot, thank you.

However, your argument here falls apart. This is more like comparing IROC to NASCAR, than NASCAR to football. Hero zero is the same game engine as BBE. In fact, they test many things out on HZ before implementing them here, such as the multiple point buying and the decoration boxes. I am not saying I favor one thing over the other, I am happy with what ever they release, new content is better than no content. If they were released so you *had* to spend diamonds, I probably would get a bit miffed, but since there is zero requirement for it, and free stuff is free stuff, I look at it that way :)

I was discussing the changes they made to the championship format in order to bring it in line with almost all other major sports in the United States. Brian France made no secret of this.

What made NASCAR more like IROC had *nothing* to do with the Chase, Elimination Rounds, or any change to the playoff system, of which I was discussing. Where NASCAR started to become NASROC was when they went to SPEC bodies, the Car of Tomorrow,  when they mandated exact degrees and heights of spoilers, when they started running laser templates over everything in the name of absolute parity. If anything, IROC had earlier tried to evolve itself to be more like a SPEC version of NASCAR when they got rid of the 50/50 split of having 2 ovals (which tended to favor the stock car drivers and to a lesser degree the CART Indycar drivers) and 2 road courses, which tended to more heavily favor drivers from series that raced more frequently on road courses. The 50/50 split at least balanced the two disciplines and made the IROC deal a bit more interesting. IROC died, cause they got rid of variety, as is NASCAR.

Now, as for this game being exactly based on the Hero Zero engine. Didn't know. That's sort of interesting, but at the same time, I still don't care. I see the NASCAR/IROC link in that sense, but that still doesn't change the fact that I don't want this to be ever more uniformly like the other. If I wanted to play Hero Zero, I'd go **** play Hero Zero. LOL

So yeah, I guess then, as this is based on that platform, your position is basically.

"If this think this system sucks, you should be happy, the one in Hero Zero is even worse".

Well, here's a novel, think outside of the box idea.

How about NEITHER mechanic suck and the player based be more rewarded and engaged in both? Could that be a thing? LOL

Failing that, they can keep the mechanic in Hero Zero as is, punishing, suck-ville. Don't care. Not playing it. I only want the one HERE to not suck<G>

I already voted in the poll but had an idea about the sensual sticks.

Why not have the ability to win them in duels?  That would be kinda fun :)

I had the same thought at first, but my next thought was "Oh crap, but then that might mean fewer diamonds" from duels. Although, it feels like they must have nerfed that awhile back anyway, such that it probably wouldn't impact that much further. So yeah, that would be a nice way to speed up ways to get scents, and give us more reasons to duel.
