Hey Jaxson, something else to consider... take a look at your refinements.
All I know is that prior to the most recent changes, I didn't have a huge difficulty getting through any of the parties except whiplash which was more hit / miss.
If the devs want to make even the lowest level party (Burning Bernie's) difficult that increases the chance of player frustration and a decision to stop being a part of the game.
It comes down to an appropriate game balance. I know 2 people who stopped playing because they wouldn't, or couldn't, afford to be consistent diamond players. If the hurdle is going to be pay-to-win then this game will die from turnover. I want the balance to be leveled at a reasonable challenge while still being allowed to proceed forward.
I've focused on doing sufficient play time to level up and earn the notes to increase my skill points in every category. So the difficulty is not coming from a failure to invest in the game.
Fights within parties are somewhat designed to be hard. They are based on your current skills, modified by level. It's like boxing a doppelganger genetically designed to get stronger as you advance...
For example, if you are at level 150 then your party fight opponents will be at levels 149, 150, 151, 152, and 153 respectively. The fights within a party get increasingly difficult as you proceed.
If the the first opponent is at level 149, it will be at 98% of your current skills, and you SHOULD mathematically WIN. Likewise, your last opponent at level 153, will be at 105% your current skills, and mathematically you SHOULD lose. But as you know, there is SO much randomness to duels.
Where I find the randomness to be most prevalent is in the REFINEMENTS. You need to go into the fight with some of the best refinements on, otherwise the opponent could be granted the better refinement. Rarely do I see the opponent wearing the same exact refinement as you, meaning they do not match your refinement one for one at the same type, rarity, and percentages. So if you go into the battle with 100% Smelling Salts on your boots (which is one of the best refinements of them all), the opponent will have an inferior refinement on their boots.
Having the better Refinements can turn the tide in almost any party duel.
Best of luck getting back out there and tackling your wily opponents.

Now if only I could find a party ticket, I might do the same.
